Extrugasa's (1-1) home debut fell flat as they lost to visiting Vigo (1-1) by 18 points.
The link is here.
The real story is that Vigo - also called "Real Club Celta Indepo" - outshot Extrugasa 49 percent to 31 percent. After that, the game was over. Looking at the quarter by quarter score, Vigo led 38-22 at the half and Extrugasa would win only the third quarter 18-14. My guess without knowing the play by play is that like the Atlanta Dream, Extrugasa fell behind and never saw the lead again.
Tamera Young had two offensive rebounds, but only two other Extrugasa players had so much as one offensive board - compared to the 10 total offensive boards of Vilo. Both teams went to the stripe 21 times, and Extrugasa scored four more points on free throws, but with turnovers even (13-13), there was simply no room anywhere in the boxscore for Extrugasa to make up the severe point deficit.
Sara Ferrerios led Extrugasa with 17 points - Tamera Young followed with 14 points, but only played 26 minutes. She had four rebounds, but also fouled four times. Katia de Silva scored 7 points and picked up nine rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Meredith Alexis? A no-show. 11 minutes, one shot taken (and missed), three rebounds. Four fouls. Zero points.
As for Vigo, Alba Torrens led the club with 17 points, but Laura Gonzalez had 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. Two other Vigo players scored in double digits.
If I can find pictures, they'll be posted.
