Voepel Implies that Lehning Will Play in Playoffs

An article by Mechelle Voepel for her old newspaper, the Kansas City Star, implies that Lehning will play in the playoffs:

Lehning laughed through the ache as she said that. Her coach, Marynell Meadors, acknowledges that when the collision happened, she feared a serious head or neck injury. Thankfully, it wasn’t that. But Lehning — who didn’t return in that game — still has an injured left shoulder that leaves her availability for tonight’s WNBA playoff opener with Detroit as a game-time decision.

“It’s going to take something pretty significant to keep me out,” Lehning said. “Tape it up and play.”

Meadors said, “She’s pretty banged-up. But she’s just a tough kid. Oh my goodness, is she tough.”

I doubt that Lehning is going to play. If she does play, we're going to have to give her a nickname. Like "True Grit" or something.

I'm not sure if MM would put her on the court game 1. But it wouldn't surprise me if she made a playoff appearance, she's definitely earned it. Id like to see her suit up and play even if it's just to run a few plays per quarter. Unless it could be career ending I doubt any player would actually choose to miss post-season.

No way is that happening! The girl just had surgery yesterday! And she's all drugged up! While she wants to play more than anything else, she knows that not playing is better for her. Not going to happen!

Voepel is being mislead or is misleading readers. Shalee will not play again this season and probably not for several months.

It's weird...even the AJC article said Shalee had a "sore shoulder"...hello...

The game notes for tonight's game -- published by the Dream, mind you -- list Shalee as a "probable starter". I understand that the team is going to want to downplay the seriousness of her injury, especially considering how effective (read: threatening! :) she is at point... but c'mon guys, don't get our hopes up unnecessarily!

BTW, I just discovered this blog and it's like water in the desert. Thanks for a great job Petrel!
