7/2009 - Sky 99, Dream 98 (OT)

The box score is here.

Candice Dupree had a double double. Every Sky starter scored in double digits.

Angel McCoughtry scored 26 points and 8 assists, which are highs for her.

Jennifer Lacy scored 11 points with a +16 plus/minus. Tamera Young scored 9 points, but it all wasn't enough. We had two attempts at a 3-pointer to tie the game, but couldn't do it.

The Dream shot 50 percent, but the Sky shot 52.1 percent.

More later.

Despite the loss, it was a well played second half by the Dream. They fought really hard to get back into that game...or rather, they were able to take advantage of the Sky completely falling apart...

That was my first time watching McCoughtry at length...she really carried the team, which is impressive given the number of vets on the Dream this year.

I think you might have a rookie of the year candidate on your hands...

Q, I'm glad to hear it about Angel.

As for ROY, the consenus is that the ROY is Dewanna Bonner, or Marissa Coleman, or Briann January, and occasionally Angel is measured in passing. She's had some good games but has had a tendency to foul too much, and I don't know how she was from 3-point range in this game but she was 0-for-8 before today. Clearly, she was a force in her own right today.

I think the secret of being a ROY is "Can you repeat that impressive performance down the line? Can you do it again?" I have a hunch that Angel can indeed do it again; I hope that we don't have to wait long to see it.

I expect to see Tamera Young among the top performers on here Tomorrow

If Atlanta had a real guard, they could have won the game. Meadors got a total of 0 points from Teasley, Lehning and Miller. The are averaging a cumulative of less than 13 points per game...when Latta averaged 12 by herself. The vets on the team are selfish. Holdsclaw is selfish. She is a nightmare to watch...she could never win before, in Washington or LA. I see why she retired

Wrongcall I agree with you 100% on the Latta situation, im starting to think that it was some turmoil behind the scenes that we dont know about. In my opinion she is clearly better than anything we got now. I know somebody (anti-Ivory) will disagree but oh well its the truth!!!...I have to say that I don't think this has anything to do with Holdsclaw though it boils down to the coach putting players in the right position. All the point guards can do is dribble the ball pass half court and pass to the wings (so what is Mique supposed to do?)

The guards on this team are horrible, but that's what happens when you practically give the Sparks Lennox (18 ppg) and leave Latta (11 ppg) out on the curb. The coach and GM should take the fall for this disaster.
