"You Can't Handle the Truth!"
This is an article by Jay Mariotti, of all people about the NBA potentially fixing games through injudicious instructions to referees.
When I read stuff like this, I think, "You know, the WNBA has to take a lot of crap from people. But think about it.
"Because the Las Vegas oddsmakers don't know the game, no one bets big money on it -- Las Vegas lines aren't even PERMITTED to take bets greater than $500 because they're afraid that WNBA fans know the game better than the bookies do.
"Because the jock/fratboy sports media expresses open contempt for the W, they want series to be shortened, not expanded. (Hell, they want the entire league to disappear.)
"Therefore, whatever you think of the WNBA's refereeing, at least as a WNBA fan I can sleep soundly knowing that WNBA president Donna Orender isn't leaning on anyone to fix games. You might not like WNBA basketball, jack, but at least our games are on the up-and-up."
