2008/7 - Sky 91, Dream 70

The beatdown continued as the Dream traveled to Chicago to take on the Sun in the second of two back-to-back games. There wasn't any change from the awful play of Friday night. The Sky beat the Dream 91-70 to send the expansion Dream to an 0-7 start.

Points in the paint was even worse this time: Sky 46, Dream 28. Of those 46 points, 32 were scored in the first half. The Sky led by 26 - 52-26 - at the end of the first half.

Four of the Sky were scoring in double figures, negating any hope of a double team against a Sky hot shooter.

It was a second straight game where Betty Lennox was not the leading scorer. Jennifer Lacy led the Dream with 18 points, one more than Lennox's 17. (Lacy's plus/minus is still horrible, at -14.) This has led a few Atlanta Dream fans to wonder if Lennox is hiding an injury. All sorts of conspiratorial-type theories abound.

It was also another sub-40 percent game from the field. The Sky shot 53.6 percent from the field against an essentially helpless team. I believe Jia Perkins was quoted as talking to a few of her fellow Sky teammates and asking, "you remember when it used to be us losing by twenty points?"

Latta had another game where she scored 10+ points - her shooting of 5 for 14 was lousy, but she upped her average to 8.3 points per game. I suspect that Latta is having to shoot because she realizes that her teammates aren't agressive enough to break open. You only have 24 seconds to give up the ball, you know.

The Dream play host to the New York Liberty on Wednesday. It ain't going to get any easier. Maybe Brazil will be knocked out of FIFA and we can get Izi Castro Marques back.
