Vivlamore: McCoughtry and Meadors Will Be ROY and COY

We call this click-love time! Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution gives us some amazing insight on the 2009 season for the Dream.

Angel McCoughtry was ready to quit.

The Atlanta Dream forward was frustrated with the way she was playing in her first WNBA season. The game was no longer fun, so she gave serious consideration to giving up the game of basketball. Serious consideration.

...

“I was just so frustrated,” McCoughtry said. “Hopefully, this may inspire anyone else who gets frustrated. Don’t give up.”

According to Vivlamore, McCoughtry and Meadors are going to be named Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year on Thursday.

Remember when AJC articles about the Dream were rarer than hen's teeth? You need - to click - the link! (Several times, if necessary.)

So Mechelle Voepel referred us all to the ombudsman at ESPN.com...

Is there a similar higher power at AJC who people should be contacting? An editor or someone?

Do you know where these honors are held? Is there some kind of set location?

It's surprising to hear that Angel was so frustrated early on and considered quitting. Never would have guessed that. I mean, rookies need time to adjust, right? Either they are putting too much pressure on themselves or teams are putting too much pressure on the rooks...

If Meadors gets COY then all those Dream fans that wanted her gone are SOL. As a Sky fan, trust me, I feel your pain...

Congrats to both regardless!

QMcCall, I'm going to look in to that.

Diane, as far as I know there is no set location. There's also a problem in that McCoughtry is in Washington for the USA Women's camp and Meadors is probably in Atlanta or Florida.

audsquad, that was the really surprising thing to read - that Angel was thinking about quitting.

And yes...we are definitely SOL....

To respond to Q, I believe the last time I wrote a "higher power" at the AJC, I believe it was the sports editor, Ronnie Ramos, but that was last season. I don't recall if I got no response or if it was a brief response, but it wasn't enough to leave me with a particularly good feeling--and witness the coverage this season. I'd think about going higher than the sports editor.
