The Slow Down Time of No Basketball
Well, it's hard to drum up talk about the Dream. Everyone, even the players is on vacation. There's no Olympic basketball until about four days from now: I don't count FIBA's Diamond tournament or whatever they call it. I don't even have a basketball schedule for Georgia Tech yet.
So what am I doing? I'm trying to work on a statistical analysis similar to the kind Q does over at Rethinking Basketball. I want to analyze the current-junior-soon-to-be-senior college class in Women's Basketball and try to determine who will be the hot picks in the 2009 WNBA Draft. However, this involves looking up and imputting statistics for over 100 prospects. I'm about 35-40 percent done. After that, I have to assign how much weight to give to each of the numbers.
(Hm, maybe I should send this to Q for his critique afterwards.)
I also had the idea of writing a work of fiction where the 1981-82 Los Angeles Lakers (at their current ages, as middle-aged men) take on the 2007 Phoenix Mercury in a "Battle of the Sexes" like the Billie Jean King-Bobby Riggs match. Unfortunately, it seems to involve too much research. I know where some of the 81-82 Lakers have ended up, but I don't know enough about their personalities or their current health statuses to make it interesting. Another project down the tubes.
When I get new news or new ideas, trust me, I'll let ya know.

That's a good idea -- I'll look forward to it. The WNBA deserves more/better prospect analysis.
I can't wait to see the analysis of the college prospects...prior drafts definitely prove that teams have not had a very good idea who would pan out in the pros....
Getting closer to finishing this thing up...around 80 percent, but work promises to be tough tomorrow. Hopefully, I can have this done by Friday.
