Dream Loses 91-79 Against Liberty on the Road

The Liberty were leading from the beginning and the Dream were never really in it. Here's the writeup from the New York Daily News.

As an autograph collector, Atlanta is quickly becoming one of my favorite teams to deal with. They seem to actually like people. Again, everyone on the team was willing to stop and sign, which means that we are now the proud owners of a t-shirt signed by, among many other people, the entire roster of the Dream. That kind of behavior is good for the league. Plus, you get the added hilarity of Iziane Castro Marques noshing on popcorn and hurriedly wiping her fingers off on her shooting shirt between signatures and apologies.

And from SportsPageMagazine.com:

“As a leader of the team, we have players who look up to me and expect a lot, but at the same time it shouldn’t be about that,” Pondexter said. “We need players to get into their own and look to be aggressive offensively, because it’s not about me, it’s about the team.”

It looks like we had a lot of press for this game. It's a pity that it ended up with a Dream loss. After a 6-0 start the Dream have lost three of their last four.

The Dream got as close to two points in the third quarter, 46-44, but that would be as close as they got. They shot 52 percent at the free throw line - 11 for 21.

Cappie Pondexter had another great game with 25 points. Leilani Mitchell had 11 points.

W and the W

An article in the Austin American-Statesman features CBS Radio's Mark Knoller, who made a detailed record of how George W. Bush has spent his seven-plus years in office. What I found odd is that the WNBA gets a mention.

In June 2008, Knoller left himself a note about the scene at an East Garden reception for the WNBA champ Phoenix Mercury: "The usual comments about their achievement and commitment to community programs. But Bush lingers some 16 minutes after the ceremony, schmoozing and chatting. Unusual. A sign of a lame duck with not much on his plate, perhaps."

Could be. Either that, or he likes women's basketball. It's been long rumored that Bush wants to be commissioner of baseball after he retires from office. But maybe W will be commissioner of the W....

Nightly News

Who would have thought so much would happen overnight? Some of the big stories:

1. Amber Jacobs will be playing tonight at point guard for the Mystics when the Dream come to visit. The Washington post states that she hasn't been that comfortable at point guard, forcing passes and never being at ease. If the Dream have a chance to steal a win, it's with Jacobs. Of course, the Mystics could just put Beard right back in.

2. It looks like Chantelle Anderson has just been waived by the Dream.

Rumor has it that Anderson tore her ACL while playing for Turkey. It was thought that she'd recover and come back for the Dream. Guess not. So we lose her height and it looks like Katie Feenstra and Erika DeSouza will be sharing center duties for the Dream.

3. Bernadette Ngoyisa was acquired from the Chicago Sky to the Indiana Fever some time last night. Ngoyisa will be playing in tonight's Indiana/Connecticut matchup as the Fever try to keep the Sun from going 4-0.
