Katie Mattera to Chicago

Have height, will travel. Katie Mattera, formerly of the Atlanta Dream (as Katie Feenstra) ends up with the Chicago Sky after the Sky waived Brooke Wyckoff. Wyckoff blew out her ACL and she's out for the year.

I expect Art Eckman to take a few trips to Chicago. And Mattera can say hello to former teammate Tamera Young. It looks like the Sky are becoming "Atlanta North".

Katie Mattera Released

Katie Mattera was released today by the San Antonio Silver Stars.

We might know her better as Katie Feenstra. Mattera played for the Dream during the 2008 season. We wish her the best of luck at the Atlanta Dream Blog.

Dream Waive Katie Feenstra/Katie Mattera

I get off the plane, check my hotel room, check what's going on the day before Draft Day, and guess what happens?

It's true. Katie Mattera, formerly Katie Feenstra, has been waived by the Dream.

It's starting to look a lot like Snow and Anderson as our centers. What does this mean for Draft Day? Who knows?

Good luck, Katie. You might not have been the best center in the world...but you were a lot better player than a lot of people gave you credit for, which sadly includes some Dream fans. The best of luck.

...and where is Katie Mattera?

It looks like Katie Mattera's been keeping busy.

She was there at the Big South Conference Championship when her alma mater Liberty played Winthrop for all the marbles. It was there that she saw Megan Frazee break two of her records:

1) Frazee scored the 50th double-double of her career, breaking Mattera's Liberty record of 49, and
2) Frazee moved past Mattera on both the Big South and Liberty all-time scoring lists during the win.

Atlanta vs. Connecticut on May 27th

It appears that there will only be one preseason game this year for the Atlanta Dream. This game will be at Philips Arena on Wednesday, May 27th against the Connecticut Sun. Ten days later, on Saturday, June 6th, the regular season opens at 7 pm against the Indiana Fever.

From what I've learned recently, Chantelle Anderson, Chamique Holdsclaw, Jennifer Lacy and Katie Mattera played in a pick-up game a couple of days ago, so you know that the future members of the Atlanta Dream are keeping busy. If there are any players dreading to take the WNBA court this year, most like they're not wearing Powder Blue.

P. S.: The 2009 WNBA Draft is less than a month from now. I plan on taking part of the day off.

Four Dreamers Whose Jobs Are Safe

On the message boards and elsewhere, there is a lot of speculation as to which players will end up on the Dream's roster in 2009 - particularly if it's true that WNBA rosters will shrink to 11 players.

However, the answer is right in front of us. There have been four players who have been advertised by the Dream all winter - heck, you see them every time you go to the Dream home page.

Everytime time the page loads, the random image of someone associated with the Dream pops up in the space at the top of the page. I've hit "refresh" 25 times and I get the same five people, over and over. Clearly, there's a consensus as to which persons will serve as the face of the 2009 Atlanta Dream.

Those persons are:

Marynell Meadors, the coach
Katie Mattera, who is still referred to as "Katie Feenstra"
Ivory Latta,
Tamera Young, and...

...occasionally Betty Lennox will show up.

Congratulations, Katie MATTERA

The Atlanta Dream Diary, the Atlanta Dream website and probably the Atlanta Dream organization bring all Dream fans the news that Katie Feenstra and Todd Mattera were married on November 8th, 2008.

Mrs. Mattera's new diary is here.

The story of Katie's wedding is up at the Dream website, along with wedding photos.

Katie mentions that next season, she will be going by her married name, Katie Mattera. Gonna have to get used to that. But best wishes to Todd and Katie Mattera!
