Euroleague 2/2009 - Perfumerias 75, Gospic 52
Carla Thomas tries to get the rock by Olga Podkovalnikova of Perfumerias.
After what was considered an upset loss against Krakow, Perfumerias (1-1) finally got their first win on the road, this time in Gospic, Croatia as they defeated Gospic 75-52 in front of a crowd of 455 spectators.
All of the good stuff - box score, game report, and pictures - are right here. FIBA Europe website, you rock!
This game could have turned out quite differently. Perfumerias carried all of their Spanish League problems with them to Croatia - the knock against Perfumerias is that Perfumerias is a slow starting team. Gospic managed to take the lead early and held off Perfumerias to lead 16-13 at the end of the first quarter. From there, Gospic managed to stay only a couple of baskets ahead and the score was tied 24-24 at one point. Gospic took a 32-30 lead into the halftime break.
Then it fell apart. Perfumerias started the third quarter with a 10-3 run. Up 42-41, Perfumerias went on another run, this time 11-0 with Gospic being held scoreless for over four minutes. Up 60-50 in the fourth quarter, another 9-0 run by Perfumerias assured victory for the Spanish League team.
A look at the Four Factors:
Field goal percentage: Perfumerias 47 percent, Gospic 38 percent. I would love to have seen the first half box score; I'd bet these percentages would be a lot closer.
Turnovers: Perfumerias 15, Gospic 22. Avoiding turnovers might have been the key to Perfumeria's win, a 7-turnover margin is a huge one.
Offensive rebound percentage: Perfumerias 21 percent, Gospic 19 percent. Sancho Lyttle only had one offensive rebound.
Free throws: Perfumerias 18-for-26, Gospic 9-for-17. Both awful percentages, but Perfumerias made up for it by going to the lien a lot more times.
Key performances....
