Top Secret Score Atlanta Dream Archive!

Well, not top secret, but Score Atlanta doesn't make it easy to find. The link is here.

I've changed the side link as well. Josh Bagriansky is one of the best writers about the Dream - reading his work is better than reading the AP writeup, at the very least.

The Dream's Secret Weapon

Josh Bagriansky from Score Atlanta has his writeup ready regarding the first two games of the Atlanta Dream.

Is Erika the "secret weapon"? Definitely. No one thinks about her, but she has the potential during any game to drop a double-double on someone.

Marynell on Ivory: "Blame the 11-Player Roster"

Josh Bagriansky, who follows the Dream at Score Atlanta, speaks with Marynell Meadors about the Ivory Latta situation. She has some interesting comments:

Atlanta turned many heads at the end of training camp, releasing well known guard Ivory Latta to cut their roster down to the maximum of 11 players that WNBA teams can carry this season.

Meadors said the release was performance-based, but didn’t want to get into details about the situation.

Latta, a fan favorite thanks to her fantastic college career at North Carolina, averaged 11.4 points and 3.6 assists on 36% shooting and started 31 games last season. But the return of Nikki Teasley, coupled with the signing of Coco Miller before training camp, may have sealed Latta’s fate.

“I think that made things jumbled up a little bit,” Meadors said of Miller signing. However, Meadors did indicate that things would have been different had the WNBA not required teams to carry just 11 players, two fewer than the previous limit of 13.

“It’s the WNBA’s fault with an 11 player roster,” she said. If we had a 12 player roster this year she [Latta] would be on the team.”

New Score Atlanta Article about the Dream

Josh Bagriansky of Score Atlanta writes about the upcoming Dream season. Definitely worth a read.

A quote:

"(Angel McCoughtry) highlighted Monday’s practice by picking point guard Nikki Teasley’s pocket in the backcourt while the team practiced its transition offense and defense, which resulted in plenty of hoots and hollers from her teammates.

“A lot of people look at her on the floor and they think she’s not very big, but she’s built very well,” Meadors said. “She’s smart on the court. She plays beyond a rookie mentality, I think.”

The Dream Starting Five

Josh Bagriansky down at Score Atlanta has a chat with both Marynell Meadors and with Angel McCoughtry about the upcoming 2009 Atlanta Dream season.

Meadors gives away some info as to how she sees the starting five:

Meadors is also looking to put all of her options to good use, and gave a bit of insight as to how the lineup will look on opening day.

“I’m not sure who’s going to start at 2,” she said, “But I’d have to save Izzy Castro-Marques will start there. And we’ve got Tamera Young and Ivory [Latta]. The 2 and 3 are really interchangeable in our offense. And when Nikki needs a break Ivory will run the point.”

We furthermore know that if Chamique Holdsclaw is played anywhere, it will be at small forward, according to Meadors.

So who will fill the power forward and center spots? Angel McCoughtry is not a power forward. Erika de Souza is sort of a slide between a power forward and a center. My guess is that since we went out of our way to acquire Michelle Snow, and Snow is a true center, this is what our starting five will look like:

So this is how it looks:

PG: Nikki Teasley
SG: Iziane Castro Marques
SF: Chamique Holdsclaw
PF: Sancho Lyttle
C: Michelle Snow

I think we can compete with this five. That is, if Nikki's knees don't give out and Iziane doesn't become her streaky self and if the depression doesn't grab Chamique and....
